Sun. night 9/25/16@Mohegan Sun Resort & Casino: 'Joey Dee (Passaic's own) and the Starliters' featuring Ronnie Dee (Joey's son) with A.J. Dee (Ronnie's son/Joey's Grandson). Incomparable Show (classics plus contemporary sounds)!!! Ronnie Dee is one of the most Fabulous Entertainers I have ever seen. Pictured: Yours Truly and 'Ronnie Dee' on my left and 'A.J. Dee' (Dynamite in his own right) on my right. Talent runs deep in the family.

The Famous came to the Peppermint Lounge, the Famous were made at the Peppermint Lounge

★★★★★
5 5 1
The Famous came to the Peppermint Lounge, the Famous were made at the Peppermint Lounge and the Famous Peppermint Lounge became more famous because of it. It was the must go place in New York in its day replaced in the next decade by Studio 54 in popularity. A major difference: the latter was known more for its upscale crowd whereas it was the growing popularity of the house band that was the draw at the Peppermint Lounge.

As I have previously mentioned on one of Joey's other threads, this is the only record I actually wore out by playing it too many times. In its final incarnation the quality on my "Peppermint Twist" single rivaled the fidelity on Thomas Edison's "Mary Had a Little Lamb."

Hi Joey, I really appreciate what you're posting. I'm wondering if you've ever seen my glowing review of "Hey, Let's Twist" that appears in pop singer/songwriter Marshall Crenshaw's book "Hollywood Rock," which is the most comprehensive research source for the history of Rock 'n' Roll band appearances in the movies?

I want you to know your movie had a profound effect on me

★★★★★
5 5 1
Joey, as different as our music styles are, I want you to know your movie had a profound effect on me. I was a high school kid, wide-eyed and stoked about playing in a REAL R&R band. The movie was such an inspiration. Young guys playing exciting music -- and GETTING PAID! Not that any of us do this for the money. But the film stoked the fires of my dream. It came out at the perfect time for me. Thanks.

He gave us a lot of support back then which helped us remain active in NYC for those two years... Great times... Thanks Joey

One of the greatest entertainers ever

★★★★★
5 5 1
One of the greatest entertainers ever, can never be replaced. Perfect person in all he does. Never will be another as great a true friend with a great family.

Joey Dee is a most fabulous entertainer.

★★★★★
5 5 1
Joey Dee is a most fabulous entertainer. Joey had a hit record in 1963, the 'Peppermint Twist' that made it to #1 Nationwide! Joey still performs it today with his talented band, the Star-liters (consisting mostly of his family: Ronny Dee, Vocals and Saxophone, Jamie Lee, Vocals, and Joey Dee, Junior, Keyboards and Vocals. I saw the Band several years ago at the Raleigh Hotel in the New York's Catskills region. Young Ronnie Dee performed the James Brown classic, 'I feel good'. Let me tell you, Ronnie was electrifying. He had the power in his voice, the dead-on melody right to each and every note, and the scream parts that you would make you think it was James Brown dressed as Ronnie Dee on Halloween. He also had an awesome choreography that was nothing less than slick, steamy, and provocative. I've never seen anyone 'pull-off' that song with any justice except for Ronnie. Joey still has those 'dance' moves in his back pocket that he pulls out during the show in amazement. Joey's hit record, 'What kind of love is this' is my favorite song, and with Ronnie's Sax solo in there - you can't help feeling moved. If you ever have the lucky chance to see Joey Dee and the Star-liters live, you'll be seeing one of the today's Greatest Shows in Rock & Roll. BTY: Joey is from Passaic, NJ and so is yours truly.

I am a fan of Joey Dee. when the Peppermint Twist was recorded. I was 17 I lived in MA but my friends and I would go to NYC on weekends and on a few of those times we went to the Peppermint Lounge where Joey Dee was playing. At that time I think myself and my friends knew our way around NYC better than we did Boston and we were all from Boston area. I remember all of us going out to buy the record after we heard it in person. We visited the Peppermint Lounge on weekends between 1960 and 1962. We always had a blast. Thank you for the great music and keep on rocking.

There are not enough words in our vocabulary to express how important and moving this song of ( "I Lost My Baby") yours was to me "back then", Joey. No matter where I turn in your wonderful Discography, every song reflects our generation in some way. The memories you have created for so many of us - well, "Happy Thanksgiving!" - seems quite appropriate to wish you today.

Hope we can see a show in FL this season!

I played there in the mid sixties for a few years , six nights a week. It was a time I'll never forget and was a real education for a 17 yr. old girl from the burbs. I was glad to be a part of the NYC scene . Joey booked us there. He and Lois were very supportive. It led to a major tour for me in 69 with Dawn.

Still wowing the girls, after all these years. Looking fantabulous.

Glad to be on board, too. Now then, we all have heard the story that somebody played a record so much either the needle or the record wore out. For me, it happened: "Peppermint Twist (Part 1)," a victim of excessive playing back in 1961. The only 45 I had which lost its audio fidelity due to too many spins. All the best to all!

What can I say about a guy who's not only a living legend but one of the nicest people in show biz? Joey Dee got his start as a teenager growing up in New Jersey and is still going strong some 60 years later. He and The Starliters were the house band at New York City's Peppermint Lounge, inspiring Joey to co-write the tune that became the group's biggest hit, "Peppermint Twist." I have seen Joey in person many times over the years and have probably taken more photos of him than any other performer. He's still just as talented & energetic as he was in the old days and his shows are a pleasure to see and hear, and to sing along with and dance to. Joey, you've still got it!!!

Joey Dee -- The Person

★★★★★
5 5 1
Many here are probably reviewing Joey Dee The Performer. But I'm here to give my review on Joey Dee The Person. Although his and The Starliters early performance of a New Orleans R&B number was one of the best things I've ever seen. It was on Ted Mack's Original Amateur Hour in 1951. Being a published author, Joey approached me to ghostwrite his autobiography. I could not do so. There was a previous commitment. Joey has remained a friend despite this. And I hope he stays one. I enjoy the conversations we have. And I hope the friendship lasts for a very long time. That being said. The heart of a performer does beat inside Joey. Friends, family, and fans can both hear and feel it pound loud and clear. This aura radiates from Joey. Whether you meet him up close in person. Sees him at one of his shows. Or just talk to him on his Facebook. The magic of his heart is there for everyone to experience.

Commanding the Stage

★★★★★
5 5 1
Having worked with Joey over the years and echoing the words of our late friend Dick Clark, Joey is a performer who always gives 200% whenever he is on stage. Many in this industry could learn a lot from Joey as to what the job of an entertainer is. You command that stage, you give it your all and most of all you show your audience how much you appreciate "them" for your success. There are many who have come out and have done a show but few come out on that stage and give the audience more than they have ever received from any performer. This is a rare gift and I personally am thankful to know Joey because he makes us all better entertainers as he has set the bar very high and we all need to achieve that height. Thanks Joey and keep on rockin!
